1. Back Country Log- a Hiking Journal

This beautiful journal offers simple log pages so she can document important aspects of her favorite hikes. Each page offers space to record what mountain she hiked, what trail she took and other key stats, as well as opportunities to record what animals she saw along the way. She can stick to recording the stats or she can use it as a chance to start a junk journal for all her hikes.
At the end of the journal are pages dedicated to important information about the natural world, such as how to identify animal prints and trees based on their leaves. As and added bonus, the journal also helps you identify plants to avoid based on the leaves and other characteristics as well!
Measuring only 4.25” by 6.25” it can easily fit in a backpack, and the soft cover and simple design come together to create a beautiful but functional journal for her to track all of her hikes- a gift for your hiker!
2.Darn Tough Merino Wool Hiking Socks

A pair of Merino wool socks from Darn Tough is a great practical hiking gift. No matter where the adventure is or the type she’s planning, she’ll most likely need a pair of high quality merino wool socks.
What makes Darn Tough in particular a good choice is that they offer a lifetime warranty on the socks, so if she walks a hole in them she an get a replacement pair for free. Available in fun colors and patterns, they’ll make any outfit cute and comfortable.
And as they’re only $25, they’re a great option for a lower price range. I really like the pattern with the bear on it. He’s so cute!
3. Hiking Sticker Collection

An easy gift that won’t break the bank, our collection of hiking themed stickers is the perfect gift for your favorite hiker. She can stick them all over her water bottle, her lap top, or a journal.
One of my hiking buddies keeps all of her stickers in a notebook- she has several notebooks full of her collection! No matter what she does with it, our stickers are unique hiking gifts for her.
And, a purchase of a sticker directly supports this channel, keeping this content ad-free!
4. Hiking Guide Books

If you’re looking for useful hiking gifts, consider getting her a guide book for her favorite hiking regions. If you’re hiking in New Hampshire or along the Appalachian Trail, the Appalachia Mountain Club has a collection of helpful books covering everything from the best casual day hikes to backcountry skiing trails.
San Diego also has a great guidebook that I enjoyed perusing on my downtime or when I was looking for inspiration.
Here are my favorites for the White Mountains and for California:
- AMC’s Best Day Hikes in the White Mountains
- New Hampshire’s 52 With a View: A Hiker’s Guide
- White Mountain Guide
- Afoot & Afield: San Diego County: 282 Spectacular Outings
5. Adventure Books

If you can’t go on an adventure, then reading about someone else’s is the next best thing. Although the book Wild by Cheryl Strayed is probably the first book that comes to mind when you think about books on adventures, there are so many more awesome books for you to consider.
Adventure books that focus on women hikers are some of my favorites, but there are plenty of best sellers that I enjoyed that were about men or included men.
Here are some of my favorite adventure books:
- Not Without Peril
- A Light Through the Cracks
- The Last Traverse
- One Mountain Thousand Summits: The Untold Story of Tragedy and True Heroism on K2
- Critical Hours
- Trail of the Lost

Hiking means drinking lots of water, during all seasons. In the summer she’ll want to keep her water cold, and in the winter she’ll want to prevent her water from freezing. That’s where this double walled stainless steel water bottle comes in handy. The insulation properties will keep her water the perfect temperature, no matter the season.
9. Lifestraw Water Filter

Every hiker needs a water filter- it’s truly an essential piece of gear your outdoorsy girl needs.
This easy to pack hiking gear allows her drink clean water from water sources along the trail, which could come in handy if she runs out of water on her trek. It feels like a minor piece of gear, but it could be a real life saver.
Put it in her first aid kit, making it a great hiking gift!
10. Kula Cloth

Leave no trace is a hiking ethics principle with the central goal to visit wild space and leave no trace of human visitation. While leaving no trace is actually impossible- think footprints in the mud, or an overturned leaf- hikers can pack out all of their trash, even the kind that’s made while using the “outdoor restroom”.
Women typically need to wipe after going tinkle to stay comfortable, but doing so can create an awkward situation. On the one hand you’d have to pack out your used toilet paper and dispose of it at home, or you’d have to bury it.
Burying it is not truly ideal as you’re still creating waste outdoors. Solution: the Kula Cloth. This is a small and portable anti-bacterial cloth that allows female hikers to use the bathroom int he woods more comfortably, while respecting the Leave No Trace principles.
And they come in all sorts of fun patterns, making an awkward object to carry into a fun accessory.
11. First Aid Kit

A compact first aid kit is a thoughtful and practical hiking gift for any hiker, as a first aid kit is one of the items that all hikers should carry. Lightweight and easy to pack, this first aid kit is perfect for handling minor injuries like scrapes, blisters, or insect bites while hiking.
Although first aid kits are part of the Essential Ten, they aren’t a sexy piece of hiking gear so they can get looked over, which is what makes it the perfect gift!

*Note that this is the smaller version of a standard Jet Boil, but I prefer the smaller size as it’s more compact.
18. BearVault Bear Box

If your hiker is going backpacking in California or anywhere bears are active, then she NEEDS this bear box! I love bears, but they don’t have opposible thumbs which makes this box impossible to open for them.
They’re attracted by the strong scent of human food- even a Cliff Bar is something they can smell from aways off- and they will come looking for the source and they might find your favorite hiker.
Enter the BearVault Bear Box, which has a very tough plastic case and a bear-proof top, so that her food and her tent will be safe in the backcountry.
Technically these wild areas do allow a counter-hang bear system, but honestly this is just easier and it doubles as a chair.

A good multitool is essential for any hiker, and having a high quality one like this Leatherman is a thoughtful gift that will keep her safe on the trail.

They’re quick drying and sweat wicking, keeping her comfortable on the trail while also being very cute, instantly elevating her outfit from Boring But Practical to Practically Couture.
OK sure maybe that’s an exaggeration but they really are super cute and they’re comfortable to hike in as they don’t stay wet for very long and they have lots of room for big lunges. Thoughtful and versatile, they’re a gift she’ll love for every outdoor adventure!

One of my favorite gift ideas, the Blundstone Chelsea boots are perfect for any adventure! They look great with jeans and a sweater for a day out with friends, and pair them with leggings and they can just as comfortably go for a walk with her dog.
These boots have been in my cart for years because they really are the boot that can do (almost) anything. They are a bit pricey, but I’ve had mine for years and I’ll have them for many more. If you’re looking for a good gift that brings the wow factor, these boots are it.

This is a satellite phone that can be used where regular cell service stops, allowing her to make emergency SOS calls if she ever needs it. Or, it allows her to send texts to update family members and loved ones.
This model is a favorite among thru-hikers for good reason- it’s just the right size to not add weight and it’s consistently reliable. It’s a bit pricey, but if you want her to stay safe out here and ease your own worries, then this a very thoughtful gift.
25. Osprey Hiking Backpack

This Osprey 20L backpack is so comfy, so well designed, and overall fantastic that it’s a pack I’ll recommend every time. Although a little pricey, it’s well worth the $120 for the quality of the design. I’ve brought this on short 5 mile hikes and on longer 10 mile hikes, and no matter the distance or amount of time I spend with it on my back it’s still fairly comfortable.
